Kia has officially revealed the Kia Clavis 2025, a brand-new compact SUV that sits below the Seltos and Carens, yet brings a bold SUV personality with a futuristic design language and boxy dimensions. Targeted at urban SUV buyers looking for style and practicality, the Clavis comes with an upright silhouette, flat bonnet, squared-off LED DRLs, and vertical LED tail-lamps giving it a rugged yet premium look. The signature Kia Tiger Nose grille has been refined for a sleeker visual profile, while black cladding on the sides, roof rails, and high ground clearance reinforce its mini-SUV credentials. It’s expected to ride on stylish 16-inch alloy wheels with dual-tone options and also offer LED lighting all around on higher trims. With its compact dimensions and SUV stance, the Clavis aims to be a stylish urban crossover built for the modern Indian family.
All-New Hybrid-Ready Powertrain with Fuel Efficiency Focus
The Kia Clavis is expected to be powered by a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine, similar to the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Exter, producing around 83PS and 115Nm torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. However, Kia is also likely to introduce a strong hybrid powertrain option, co-developed with Hyundai, which could deliver over 27+ km/l fuel efficiency making the Clavis one of the most economical SUVs in its segment. The hybrid variant is expected to use a dedicated battery pack, regenerative braking, and electric motor assist to offer city-friendly low-end torque and highway cruising efficiency. This would position the Clavis uniquely against both budget petrol SUVs and upcoming Tata Punch EV or Exter CNG models. Drive modes, start-stop tech, and advanced fuel-saving algorithms are expected to be part of the powertrain suite.
Feature-Rich Cabin with Kia Connect and Modern Design
Inside, the Kia Clavis will offer a fresh dashboard layout inspired by the Carens and Seltos, featuring dual 10.25-inch displays—one for the infotainment and another for the digital instrument cluster on higher variants. The infotainment system will support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Kia Connect with over 60+ features, voice commands, OTA updates, and navigation with live traffic alerts. Cabin comfort will include push-button start, keyless entry, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, wireless charging, cruise control, Type-C ports, and premium textured fabric or leatherette upholstery. Space optimization will be a key highlight, with wide-opening rear doors, a flat floor, and 60:40 split-folding seats to expand luggage space. The boot capacity is expected to be over 300 litres, and practical storage areas will be placed throughout the cabin for convenience on daily commutes.
Safety with 6 Airbags and ADAS-Lite in Top Variants
Kia is expected to offer 6 airbags standard from mid-variants upward, along with ABS, ESC, hill-start assist, vehicle stability control, rear parking sensors with camera, ISOFIX mounts, and tyre pressure monitoring system. On top-end models, Kia may debut ADAS-Lite functionality with features like forward collision warning, lane departure alert, driver attention monitoring, and high beam assist. The Clavis is built on the same global platform as the Carens and has been reinforced with high-strength steel for improved crash safety and stability. It will be compliant with Bharat NCAP norms and tuned for Indian road conditions to ensure durability and safe handling across diverse terrain. Passive safety features like auto door lock, speed-sensing lock/unlock, and anti-theft alarm will be standard across the range.
Launch, Pricing and Variants in India
The Kia Clavis 2025 is expected to launch in India by early 2025, positioned between the Kia Sonet and the entry-level hatchback segment. Prices are expected to start from around ₹6.99 lakh for the base petrol manual variant and go up to ₹11.49 lakh for the top-end hybrid automatic variant. The Clavis will be available in multiple trims including HTE, HTK, HTK+, and GTX, with hybrid and ADAS options offered from mid-spec onwards. Buyers can expect dual-tone colors, dark-themed editions, and accessories like roof racks, side steps, and all-weather floor mats at launch. Bookings are likely to open by December 2024 at Kia dealerships and online. With its bold styling, hybrid efficiency, tech-rich interior, and Kia’s strong brand backing, the Clavis is set to shake up India’s entry-SUV segment and offer an exciting new alternative for urban buyers.
