The all-new Citroën Basalt (formerly known as C3X) is here to shake up India’s compact SUV segment with its unique fastback coupe design, combining the practicality of an SUV with the sleekness of a sedan. Based on Citroën’s CMP modular platform (shared with C3 and C3 Aircross), the Basalt is designed in India, for India, targeting young buyers looking for style, space, and performance in a distinct package.

The Citroën Basalt stands out with its high bonnet line, coupe-style sloping roof, and raised SUV stance. It features LED DRLs, tri-arrow signature grille, wide wheel arches, and dual-tone alloys, making it one of the most distinctive compact SUVs on Indian roads. With SUV-like ground clearance and body cladding, it blends urban elegance with rugged character.
Feature-Rich Interior with Modern Connectivity
Inside, the Basalt is expected to offer a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver seat, and rear AC vents. Citroën may also include its signature Advanced Comfort seats for enhanced long-drive ergonomics.
Peppy Turbo Petrol Performance
Under the hood, the Citroën Basalt will be powered by a 1.2L turbocharged PureTech petrol engine, producing around 110 PS and 190 Nm torque. It is likely to be offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions. The engine is known for its punchy mid-range performance and urban fuel efficiency.

Citroën vehicles are known for their plush suspension setups, and the Basalt is expected to offer a segment-leading ride quality. The Citroën Basalt is expected to be launched in second half of 2025, with pricing expected between ₹8.5 lakh to ₹12.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will directly compete with models like the Tata Curvv (upcoming), Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Brezza, offering a fresh, coupe-style alternative in the segment.
